Stomach Disorders
The food we consume first reaches the stomach (Aamashaya), where digestion begins. Proper digestion transforms food into nourishment that supports the body’s tissues, organs, strength, and vitality. A healthy digestive system is therefore fundamental to overall well-being.
Traditional Indian wisdom places great importance on Jatharagni—the digestive fire, which governs the process of digestion. When this digestive fire remains balanced and strong, digestion proceeds naturally and efficiently. When it becomes weak or sluggish, problems such as loss of appetite, indigestion, constipation, and Mandagni (sluggish digestion) may arise.
According to traditional understanding, digestion is supported by the harmonious functioning of several bodily elements. Vayu (air) helps move food into the stomach and stimulates the digestive fire; moisture assists in breaking food into smaller portions; and Kapha helps soften and facilitate the digestive process. Together, these functions enable food to be properly digested and assimilated.
The nourishing essence of digested food contributes to the formation and nourishment of the body, while the remaining waste is naturally eliminated. Thus, digestion is not merely a function of the stomach—it is a vital foundation of strength, nourishment, energy, and well-being.
